Afghanistan's submission for the foreign-language Oscar category, Rona, Azim's Mother is the latest from the filmmaking duo of brothers Jamshid (writer and director) and Navid Mahmoudi (producer). An examination of life among Afghan refugees in Iran, the film tells the story of a middle-aged man who faces a life-and-death decision regarding his gravely ill mother, and through the lens of a family drama, provides an insightful image of bureaucratic frustrations in a community trapped in a seemingly never-ending state of limbo. Rona stars Mohsen Tanabandeh (Ferrari) who was CineIran's special guest in 2017.
